Yesterday evening Emma said to me, "Mom I have a question for you." I paused and wondered what question would follow, as she seemed pretty serious. She asked, "Mom what would you do if I had cancer?"
Wow, my heart just stopped for a moment and I instantly got teary eyed. I took a deep breath and replied with what came to my mind first. I told Emma that we would try to get her the best doctors and help that we could so she could get better. She looked at me kind of funny and said, " no, I mean, would you want me to wear a wig to school or just go to school bald?" That took me back a little and then I thought about how Emma understands the disease and how something like that would affect my 8 yr. old little girl. We talked about it for a while and then she climbed into my cozy bed with me and we snuggled while watching Martha Stewart cook delicious Thanksgiving pies.
I am so thankful for the good health that our family is blessed with. Sometimes I take that for granted. Thanks to Emma for reminding me.
