Independence Day

Since I was a little girl I have had an ongoing love affair with the 4th of July. Maybe because my sister's birthday is two days after and I always assumed the celebrations were in her honor. Maybe it's because of the glittering, colorful, bang of the magical fireworks lighting up the summer the sky, or the oodles of watermelon, Popsicles, ice cream and soda waiting to cool and sooth my craving palate. Maybe it's the glorious songs and anthems dedicated to just this one special day. Everyone is dressed in their red white and blue, there are parades, family gatherings, and just a general feeling of something special that electrifies the air we breathe. As an adult, I appreciate all that our forefathers sacrificed in our behalf for freedom and all those serving today to protect those freedoms. This 4th was just as special and memorable. We took the time to get a quick picture or two and then headed to Weatherford to enjoy the air conditioned movie theater. All of us girls went to see Monte Carlo (a chick flick for sure) while the guys saw The Green Lantern which was much more appropriate to satisfy their testosterone levels! We went out for a late lunch and then headed back home. Around 6pm. Rob's dad came out to spend some time with us. This was really nice. Rob grilled some burgers and we had fruit salad and played some games. Later we went to the high school stadium to watch fireworks with some friends. Eden's play by play review was so amusing to listen to. She thoroughly enjoyed the show and everyone around us knew it! I think as I look back over the various 4th of July's I have enjoyed I am most grateful for family and friends to enjoy them with. Happy Independence Day America!!!
