Life is funny! I think one of my first posts was talking about our family life and living in the country. I mentioned something about how it was a dream of ours to live in the country and that we were finally feeling settled. Well we (or at least I) also like change and new projects!I guess I like the idea of taking something that has potential and fixing it up.
One Saturday about a month ago I thought it would be fun to take a drive down one of the historic streets in Mineral Wells. on the drive I noticed there were two homes that were for sale and that would be having "Open Houses" the next afternoon. Perfect! This would be a chance for us to get into the homes without much explanation or commitment to a realtor. I convinced the gang to go and the following day we were pleasantly surprised by both of the home's charm, potential, and asking prices!
At the first home we were eagerly greeted by a lovely "southern belle" who we immediately took a liking to. She was very interested in our family and what had brought us to look at the home. We were honest and said we were pretty much curious and explained that we lived in the country, but that Rob worked with a physician in the area. She was overflowing with enthusiasm and spoke so fast (as many Texans often do) I could hardly keep up with her. I was excited to find out she had a family who was looking in our area for a home and would we be at all interested in possibly showing our home to them?
Wow, several months previous to this we had put our home on the market for one short month. We thought we wanted to build a home in Weatherford, but it just didn't feel right and about two clients had viewed our home at that time. We felt sure and confident that we should not try to sell and stay put. We were happy and content! Before we knew it both Rob and I were answering in unison that yes indeed this family could look at our home and if things did not work out with them perhaps we would want to list our home with her. They were not interested in buying but we decided to list our house anyways. That's really how this whole whirlwind started. We had her come out the following week to list our home. The next evening Rob and I decided we should paint our kitchen, dining area, and family room. Unfortunately the next day Rob came home early from work with the flu. I was trying to box up any clutter so that we could stage our home better for an upcoming virtual tour that was scheduled for the next week. That evening I got a call asking would it be alright to show our home that evening. My mouth said, "yes" while my mind said, "no way in he.." I had about an hour and a half to get everything ready and the house was still ripped apart from painting and such. I barked out orders to the kids like a drill Sergeant and somehow we got out the door with a very sick Rob in tow just as the realtor and prospective buyers pulled up. I took one car to take Landon to cub scouts while Rob took another to go get some supper. How I ever let him drive so sick and medicated I still do not understand. The next day I was still trying to get things done to beautify the home with my sick hubby and we got another call for a showing. I ended up taking the kids to Lauren's band concert while Rob went ....somewhere....
It was all very worth the chaos as the next day we got an offer from the first couple who saw the house. We were amazed how fast this took place. I had been imagining how agonizing life could be with the endless showings and no real interest shown for months on end. We had prayed so hard that if it was right to sell our home everything would fall into place and for it to happen quickly! We have been sooo blessed during this whole process. We are scheduled to close on both homes on June 29th. We will move the next day into the first home we saw that day of the "Open Houses" and are very excited. It will be closer to everything as most know it is a half hour drive from our present home to a grocery store. It will be larger square footage, but a much smaller yard to maintain. The bathrooms all need to be redone, but my husband otherwise known as Macgiver is ready for the task at hand.
I am excited about our new adventure, I have no idea how long we will be there, maybe long enough to fix it up, or maybe long enough to have grandchildren visit. In any case we are really excited and can't wait to have our family and friends come to visit us in our new home!
