Our first port was Montego Bay, Jamaica. This was Rob and my second time to go there. This time it was very different because the weather was overcast and we had the kids along for the ride. We wanted to go to the #1 tour which was to a pineapple plantation; however we waited too long to book it! They told us the "Spirit of Montego Bay" tour was good and we wanted to see what the city was like so that is what we did. We got on a bus (Emma had a hard time with driving on the opposite side of the road)and went around the city looking at different homes, buildings, schools, restaurants, and a haunted house. We also dropped by Jimmy Buffet's Margarita Ville. My mom and I bought some jewelry there. It was a lot of fun!
Our favorite place to visit was a very old church where they were celebrating their religious holiday of Lent. The members of the congregation were very gracious in letting us tourists come into their church to look around, take pictures, and listen to their steel drum music. We were told the whole city pretty much had the day off for this religious holiday and that they would be worshipping all day only taking breaks to eat. I asked our tour guide if she knew of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and she said it was one of the more recent religions to come to the island. I wish we could have attended church there. We had planned on going to the beach to swim and snorkel, but the weather wasn't great and it was too cold. The kids were really tired, so we took them back to the ship to party at camp carnival! Rob, Landon, and I went back to the city where we walked down the main street until we could do some shopping. We found a restaurant that served "jerk" that the locals said they liked. Rob and Landon had their hearts set on getting some good Jamaican jerk. It was good and while we were there a local artist (who also designs his own clothes)drew a portrait of Rob and I. He was very interesting to talk to and his outlook on life was very unusual. Before we knew it we had to head back to the ship. I am so glad Rob and I had some one on one time with Landon. He is growing up so fast as they all are and I will always remember our afternoon in Jamaica together. What great memories!
