New Beginnings

I have a new calling in the church. I am now first counselor in the Young Women's organization and I am so excited!!! At first I was a little bummed just because I loved my calling as the 12-13 yr. old Sunday school teacher. I had a lot of fun with the youth and I really enjoyed teaching the essentials of the gospel, but this is great because I still get to work with the youth, be with my gorgeous daughter Lauren, act silly with the girls, and they have awesome inspiring lessons in Young Womens. We have about nine active YW. I know it's pretty tiny, but for a Branch I think we are doing great. We may be small, but we are mighty!
Our second activity since I was called was New Beginnings. We decided to do a Super Bowl theme. The YW were the team of football players. They wore white tee-shirts that we taped numbers on the back to be like football jerseys and wore black stickers under there eyes. Each girl was introduced like a pro. football player coming out onto the field for the game. They did a skit on team work and the importance of practice that incorporated the eight YW values. The branch presidency all wore referee shirts (they were so cute) and all of us YW leaders were the cheerleaders. Luckily our YW pres. is a teacher at a high school so she was able to get the ref. shirts and pom poms for us. I was in charge of the decorations and I think they turned out really fun. Our secretary, a newly reactivated sister who is also in charge of personal Progress spoke to the girls. It is so cool to see the growth of new converts and reactivated members in our branch. They are becoming awesome leaders! Pres. Darden gave a great talk. He spoke to the girls and their parents like a coach and it made a great impact. For refreshments we had a concession stand serving banana splits. The evening was a lot of fun and I can't wait to share more ideas and experiences that I am blessed to be involved with in the YW.
