Attitudes can change

O.k. so pretty much I have never hid my lack of enthusiasm about scouting. Since I am a girl, I always thought that let me off the hook of being involved and excited about scouting. I briefly remember my mom being a den leader when I was about eight yrs. old and the best part about that was selling the candy bars for a fund raiser because we ended up buying most of them. My second experience with scouting was when Landon turned 8. I knew scouting was something my son would participate in, but I thought I would have little or nothing to do with it as it was Rob's job and his leader's responsibility. Then I was called to be primary president. I did learn some things about scouting and did what I had to, but I must confess I never got all fired up about it. I have enjoyed getting the mother's pins and seeing Landon and the other boys earn their rewards for their hard work, but again I really haven't liked scouting. This last Friday night Landon was invited to a meeting for boys who are 11 yrs. turning 12 this year. Parents were invited as well and it was put on by the Weatherford Stake presidency. They taught us not only about the importance of scouting, but also went over the Duty to God program and receiving the priesthood. The light bulb went on for me and I have to say I finally felt the spirit concerning scouting. I can now see that it is an inspired program. It allows our boys to play, explore, and learn in a safe environment. I really did feel the spirit and I understand my important role in helping Landon with his scouting in the years to come. It was an evening just for these boys and they did an excellent job in making it special and helping them to know how important it will be when they receive the priesthood. I can't believe my son will have the priesthood this year. What a blessing that will be for him and for our family. So attitudes can change. I was wrong and I admit that. I don't know if I will ever don a scouting uniform though.
